Vitus Bering was born on August 12th 1681 in the city of Horsens in Denmark.He became an explorer because he wanted to know if Asia was connected to North America by a land bridge. In 1700 he went to the Northern war, he was a part of the Russian team and he was fighting against Sweeden. After the war he married a Russian woman.
First Voyage
In 1725 Vitus decided to go and see if asia was connected to north america.He stared his exploration but after a few days he saw that asia was sepperatered with North America by an ocean although he could not see North America due to heavy fog. After he discoverd that asia was sepperated from North America he had to go back and tell the Russians.

Second Voyage
In 1740 he started his second exploration to North america with two ships, one called Sviatoi Piotr and the other Sviatoi Pavel. When he was in the middle of the voyage a storm sepperated the ships. the ship that Bering was sailed went to Alaska. Anyway he had to keep going but after a few days it was so risky to keep going so he had to go back to Russia.On the way back Bering discovered two islands, one called Shumagin island, he called it Shumagin island of honor to a crew that died there.the second island that he discoverd was Bering island where he died with 28 men on 19 of december 1741.
After Voyage
In August 1991 the body of Vitus Bering and 5 of his crew members were discovered by a marine transport (from Russia). They took the bodies from the ocean and they brought them to Moscow where the doctors of Moscow managed to restore his apperence. After that they berried the bodies on Bering island.
